The Omeo ΒιΆΉΙη Victoria (AV) branch has taken home the award for Event of the Year for their outstanding work organising the Omeo Emergency Services Open Day.

Held in June last year, the open day highlighted the work of all local emergency services including AV, SES, Victoria Police and CFA.

Consisting of vehicle tours, a car rescue demonstration using the jaws of life, and hands-on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) workshops, there was something to entertain people of all ages.

AV Omeo Team Leader Rhiannon Snape said the community’s response to the event was overwhelmingly positive.

β€œOriginally we organised the event in an attempt to attract more ΒιΆΉΙη Community Officers (ACOs) but then thought to make it bigger by including our emergency service partners,” she said.

β€œIt was the first Emergency Services Open Day that we’ve held and it was a resounding success.

β€œIt was amazing to see so many members of the community turning out to support us and all the work we do.”

Rhiannon said it was an honour to have the event recognised on such a large scale.

β€œWe never thought the open day would lead to us receiving this award,” she said.

β€œI feel incredibly proud to have our work recognised alongside so many other amazing locals who all work together to make our area such a great place to live.”

The award was presented by the Omeo Shire Lions Club at their Australia Day awards ceremony.
